Geneva, April 16: Highlighting the danger of atomic arsenal falling into the hands of terrorists, India has pressed for strengthening of global cooperative efforts to address the "critical challenge" that has made the threat from nuclear weapons "more complex and dangerous".
New Delhi pitched for a Nuclear Weapons Convention to "close the loop on the weapons of mass destruction" and asked the UN Disarmament Commission (UNDC) to redouble efforts to give a "positive impulse" to global non-discriminatory disarmament.
"Nuclear disarmament has acquired greater urgency due to the new threat of terrorists acquiring weapons of mass destruction," Hamid Ali Rao, India's Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament, said at the 2009 session of the UNDC here yesterday.
