Passer-by pushed a suicidal person off the bridge (images...)

This incident happened in Guangzhou, China. When a man was threatening to commit suicide by jumping from a bridge was pushed by passer-by! Lai Jiansheng, 66, said he was fed up with the desperate man's "selfish activity" which caused huge traffic jams, so he pushed the guy over the edge. Chen Fuchao fell 26ft (8m) on to an air cushion and is recovering in hospital, the official Xinhua news agency said. Xinhua said Mr Lai was "taken away by police", but gave no further details.

Vedic Math: Multiplication of numbers nearer to bases like 10,100,1000 etc

Difference between the number and the base is called the deviation. For example, if the number is 15, the deviation is (15 – 10) = +5 or simply 5. For the number 6 the deviation is (6 – 10) = -4.

Lets take a very simple multiplication ( 7 x 8 ) = 56.

Step 1: Write the numbers and their deviations from the base 10 which is the nearest base for both,

Step 2: Now add any number with the deviation of the other.
In this case you can add 7 with -2 which will give 5 or,
add 8 with -3 to get 5. Note that in both case there should be the same result.

Write the result like this,

Step 3: Now multiply the two deviations which are -3 and -2 in this case.
The product is +6
Write the product as,

7 -3

8 -2

5 /6

Hence the result is 5/6 or simply 56.

Now Lets work on a slightly more complicated problem.
( 94 x 108 )

Take the base 100.

94 -6

108 8

Now the Left hand side will be ( 94 + 8 ) or (108 – 6) which is 102

So,

94 -6

Now the product of the deviation in this case is ( -6 x 8 ) = -48 which is negative.
Remember that we have chosen the base as 100.

Multiply the right hand side result with the base and subtract 48 to get the result.

102 X 100 = 10200
10200 – 48 =10152

Hence the result is 10152. (We have actually done the same thing in the first example which is, 5 x 10 + 6 = 56)

Now take another example (16 x 13) = 208. Here we take 10 as the base.

Here if you add 18 with the right hand side result, the multiplication will be a mess.
Remember we have taken 10 as the base and look at the deviations each of which has one digit. So you must put 8 in the right hand side and carry 1.

Now add the carry to the right hand side result to get (19 + 1) = 20.

Hence the result is 20/8 or simply 208.

Exercise: Verify the results

1. 1003 x 997 (Take 1000 as base)
2. 97 x 89 (Take 100 as base)

Vedic Mathematics: Quicker Division by 9

Step 1: Take a 2 digit number, say 26 and write it with each digit separated, 2/6.
Step 2: Now leave a blank under the number and then draw a horizontal line under like this,

Step 2: Put the first digit under the last digit of the number like this,

Step 3: Add the two numbers, each digit separately,

Step 4: The first digit before “/” is your quotient and that comes after”/” is the remainder.
Here, 2 is the quotient and 8 is the remainder.

Now for a 3 digit number say, 153 lets proceed in similar way.
Step 1: Rewriting the number, last digit separated by a “/”

Step 2: Putting a blank space and drawing a horizontal line under the blank line,

Step 3: Add the first two digits which will give you 6. Put that as the last digit in the blank line.

Step 4: Now there is an extra step, again separate the left two digit by a “/”

Step 5: Put the first digit in the next blank space that is, before the “/”

Step 7: Naturally the number that comes last is the remainder. But in this case, the remainder 12 is greater than 9. So repeat the same process for 2 digit numbers. This will give,

Step 8: Put 3 in the original calculation and carry 1 to the next position that is, to the quotient portion.

Your answer is quotient = 17 and remainder is 3. Verify the result with the help of traditional method. You will get the same result.

Now let us discuss the same procedure as applied generally to numbers having more than one digit.
Take a number 7321
Rewrite it by separating each digit,

Now what will come under 1?
Obviously the sum of the previous digits. Right?
In this case it is 12, again greater than 9 itself. So what we actually consider instead of a 12 is,

Thus we put 3 and carry 1 to the next position.

Again what should we write under 2? The sum of the previous digits brings us, 7 +3 =10, Adding carry 1 , we get, 11. We put 1 and carry 1 to the next position.

Write 7 + 1 = 8 Under 3 as there is only one “previous digits” left. Then we add the numbers the same way mentioned earlier.

This gives 813 as the quotient and 4 as the remainder. Verify this too with the traditional process. This gonna be fun.

The Poem Goes, below... It is mainly a feelings of a Person, who was not drunk but Suffered for other Guy..

I went to a party Mom,

I remembered what you said.

You told me not to drink, Mom,

So I drank soda instead.



I really felt proud inside, Mom,

The way you said I would.

I didn't drink and drive, Mom,

Even though the others said I should.



I know I did the right thing, Mom,

I know you are always right..

Now the party is finally ending, Mom,

As everyone is driving out of sight..



As I got into my car, Mom,

I knew I'd get home in one piece.

Because of the way you raised me,

So responsible and sweet.



I started to drive away, Mom,

But as I pulled out into the road,

The other car didn't see me, Mom,

And hit me like a load.



As I lay there on the pavement, Mom,

I hear the policeman say,

"The other guy is drunk," Mom,

And now I'm the one who will pay.



I'm lying here dying, Mom....

I wish you'd get here soon.

How could this happen to me, Mom?

My life just burst like a balloon.



There is blood all around me, Mom,

And most of it is mine.

I hear the medic say, Mom,

I'll die in a short time.



I just wanted to tell you, Mom,

I swear I didn't drink.

It was the others, Mom.

The others didn't think.



He was probably at the same party as I.

The only difference is, he drank

And I will die.



Why do people drink, Mom?

It can ruin your whole life.

I'm feeling sharp pains now.

Pains just like a knife.



The guy who hit me is walking, Mom,

And I don't think it's fair.

I'm lying here dying

And all he can do is stare.



Tell my brother not to cry, Mom.

Tell Daddy to be brave.

And when I go to heaven, Mom,

Put "GOOD BOY " on my grave.



Someone should have told him, Mom,

Not to drink and drive.

If only they had told him, Mom,

I would still be alive.



My breath is getting shorter, Mom.

I'm becoming very scared.

Please don't cry for me, Mom.

When I needed you, you were always there.





I have one last question, Mom.

Before I say good bye.

I didn't drink and drive,

So why am I the one to die?
